Dr. Sayantan Acharya, resides at the intersection of independent filmmaking, photography, and inspiring TEDx influence. Rooted in Bangalore, he is a luminary in both the realms of academia and artistry, imparting knowledge in film making and Physics at Atria University, Bangalore.
Acharya's journey commenced as a writer, poet, and cover-designer within the esteemed "Birutjatio Sahitya Sammilani," a Santiniketan-based Bengali literary group, and the first Bengali audiozine "Ropan."
Embracing his burgeoning passion, Acharya has ventured into both fiction and non-fiction domains, contributing to over 20 films, spanning shorts and documentaries. Notably, he garnered co-directorship in the esteemed crowd-sourced documentaries "India in a Day (2016)" and "Life in a Day (2020)," co-produced by Ridley Scott, Anurag Kashyap, and Google India.
He has exposure to mainstream cinema with an internship in the Bengali film "Posto" in 2016. Beyond the silver screen, Acharya's creative prowess has graced professional advertisement films and intricate storyboards for diverse corporations.
Acharya's distinctive touch earned global recognition through his documentary "Geography of Drought (2018)," a project that resonated across borders and represented India at the prestigious Budapest Water Summit (2019-20).
Acharya is experimenting with the alternative methods of Photography and intends to meld the boundaries between documentary and fiction. He has earned the esteemed Bangalore International Center grant for consecutive years—2023 and 2024.
